Experts at the India Meteorological Department on Monday forecast that monsoon activity over the south peninsular region could be in for a further boost from Friday.
Speaking to The Hindu , they said a significant step-up in monsoon activity was expected as prediction models indicated that an upper air cyclonic circulation was likely to form over the Bay of Bengal during the next two days. The system would add to the strength of the current monsoon activity in the region.
Meanwhile, the monsoon has advanced into most parts of coastal Karnataka and some more parts of the south interior of the State, with conditions getting favourable for it to advance over more parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and some parts of the Konkan region, Goa and interior Maharashtra during the next two days.

During the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Monday, widespread rainfall occurred over Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Rajasthan, fairly widespread rainfall occurred over Gujarat, Lakhshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, the Konkan region, Goa and Haryana.
Rajasthan has been experiencing widespread rainfall as the cyclonic storm Phet, over the Arabian Sea, moved inland and centred over Jodhpur as a depression, which is expected to move in an east-north-east direction and gradually lose strength.
Consequently, rainfall activity could also shift further inland and bring good rainfall over Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and west Uttar Pradesh over the next two days.

Maximum temperatures could also fall by four to five degrees celsius over parts of northwest and west India. This, however, would only be a temporary relief, with temperatures falling only till Tuesday.
