Miraculous escape for baby born in train toilet

In a bizarre accident aboard a moving train, a baby was born inside a toilet and fell through the toilet outlet onto the railway tracks in West Bengal’s Purulia district late on Tuesday night.

He was rescued later and is now well and under observation at a nearby hospital.

The incident fortunately took place when the train was not at a very high speed, as it was nearing Birajpur Station, said Soumitra Majumdar, chief public relations officer of Southeastern Railway.

Bhola Roy, his wife Rinku Roy and their son were travelling on the Tatanagar-Chhapra express. At around 11 p.m., Ms. Roy stepped into the toilet where she suddenly went into labour. The child was delivered in the toilet, but fell through the outlet onto the tracks.

Ms. Roy immediately jumped off the moving train even before her husband or co-passengers could pull the alarm chain. The mother and child were eventually found to be safe, Mr. Majumdar said.

They were taken to the nearby Purulia Sadar hospital thereafter.
