Man arrested for helping Naxals prior to Narayanpur attack

A man was today arrested for allegedly helping the Maoists prior to the attack on CRPF personnel in Narayanpur district, which resulted in the death of 27 jawans last month, police said.

The accused Leem Chand Patel, vice-president of the local agricultural market, was arrested by Narayanpur police for helping the outlaws from Mongera village in the district, Superintendent of Police, Narayanpur, Rahul Bhagat said.

Patel ran a ration shop and has admitted to have arranged foodgrains, torches, batteries, generators etc for the Naxals, he said.

Before the Narayanpur attack, Patel had arranged for the food for the Naxals, Mr. Bhagat said.

Patel has been arrested under the Chhattisgarh Public Safety Law, Mr. Bhagat said adding he is being interrogated.
