Mamata condoles loss of lives in MP train mishap

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee today expressed grief over the loss of lives in the rail mishap in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district that left 15 people dead.

Terming the accident as “most unfortunate”, she announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh for the next kin of the dead, Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 50,000 for those with serious and minor injuries respectively.

The Railways also announced that Commissioner of Railway Safety, Central Circle, Mumbai, Chetan Bakshi will hold an inquiry into the train accident and submit the preliminary report within a fortnight. He will be reaching the accident site shortly.

Fifteen people were killed and 50 others injured when a goods train overshot the signal and hit the stationary Indore-Gwalior Intercity Express at Badarwas railway station in the district in the wee hours amid heavy rains and poor visibility.
