President Pratibha Patil has appointed Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya of the Madras High Court as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.
Justice Mukhopadhaya, 59, who hails from Bihar, was appointed as a Permanent Judge of the Patna High Court in November, 1994. As a Judge, he decided several important civil and Constitutional cases.
He became a Judge of the Jharkhand High Court from November 15, 2000. He was transferred to the Madras High Court on August 31, 2006, where he functioned as the Acting Chief Justice from May 9 to 18 in 2008.
