Judiciary has no powers to interfere in matters of faith: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party has said that the judiciary had no powers to intervene on an issue which is purely a subject of faith associated with the Hindu religion.

The High Court’s poser to the TDB could only be viewed as a needless interference in the faith and traditions followed by the Hindus and the Court has no powers to do so, BJP State President V Muralidharan said at a public reception at Thrikaripur last evening while winding up five-day long journey of ‘Kerala Raksha Padayatra’ in the district.

The judiciary’s role is to ensure that all the laws passed by the legislative bodies are interpreted and justice is delivered to the needy as per the established rules and regulations, Muralidharan said.

The people will not allow any judicial bodies to interfere in matters concerning faith, he said.

The High Court’s poser to the TDB on the authenticity of hallowed celestial light visible from Sabarimala came in the wake of tragic death of 102 Ayyappa pilgrims in stampede at Pulmedu near the hill shrine while dispersing after witnessing the ‘jyothi’ on the Makar Sankranthi day on January 14.

Muralidharan came down heavily on the Left Democratic Front Government and the Congress led opposition camp for failing to arrive at a consensus on identifying a suitable land for the prestigious Central University of Kerala, as the institution is now housed under a rented roadside accommodation.
