JPC probe only way out: Jaitley

December 08, 2010 01:59 am | Updated November 28, 2021 08:42 pm IST - BANGALORE:

A joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum scam is the only way to end the stalemate in Parliament and the Opposition will work “overtime” to complete the pending business in Parliament if the government agreed to a JPC probe. This was stated by Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley here on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Jaitley said the integrity of investigating agencies such as the CBI and the CVC was seriously compromised and the government could not expect the Opposition to have faith in these institutions.

Defending the Opposition parties' demand for a JPC probe, he said: “Is Parliament going to be a silent spectator to all this..? This not an auditing or an accounting matter….Why was the [Communications] portfolio meant only for a particular political party? The tapes indicate that these were meant for a particular political individual….Policies were framed with the help of lobbies…ministerial posts' allocations took place with the help of lobbies.”
