Under fire for police excesses, which resulted in two custodial deaths, the Mayawati government on Thursday terminated the services of four policemen and placed under suspension six others.
Kailash Nath Dwivedi, station-in-charge of the Musafirkhana station in Sultanpur district, was sacked on the charge of thrashing a Dalit woman in custody on Wednesday.
The services of Vinod Kumar Dubey, station house officer of the Ghoorpur police station in Allahabad, and constables Hari Prakash Rai and Anil Kumar Singh were terminated, after they were charged with the custodial death of two youths.

All the four dismissed policemen were earlier placed under suspension.
Principal Secretary (Home), Kunwar Fateh Bahadur told journalists here that inspector Dwivedi, during interrogation, beat up Sangita, who had been arrested on the charge of strangulating to death her sleeping husband Deepak Kumar in the early hours of Wednesday, following a family tiff.
As for the custodial deaths, Mr. Bahadur said the Ghoorpur police, acting on information about the presence of some armed youths at a liquor vend in Gohaniya in Allahabad on February 14, arrested Sanjay Nishad, Mukesh Nishad, Devanand Goswami and Ashok Kumar Nishad, after an exchange of fire in which constable Kamlesh Pandey was injured. Sanjay and Ashok Nishad died in police custody after they were allegedly beaten up by the dismissed SHO and two constables, Mr. Bahadur said.
