Infosys techie murder case: Accused remanded to judicial custody till February 21

The Pune police nabbed the main suspect Bhabin Saikia, security guard at Hinjewadi IT Park premises in Pune, from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in the early hours of Monday.

A local court on Tuesday remanded Bhaben Saikia, prime accused in the murder of Infosys employee Rasila Raju O.P., to judicial custody till February 21.

Mr. Saikia (27), who worked as a security guard in the Infosys premises in Pune’s Hinjewadi IT Park, had allegedly strangled Rasila Raju near her workstation on the ninth floor of the building on January 29 after she had reprimanded him for staring at her.

In a swift operation by the Pune police, Mr. Saikia was nabbed from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) while attempting to escape for Assam by boarding a Guwahati-bound train.

Meanwhile, a ‘safety walk’ organized at the Hinjewadi IT Park, and led by Pune Police Commissioner Rashmi Shukla, drew a massive crowd of IT professionals and citizens, all of whom marched to show their solidarity for the memory of Rasila Raju.

The walk commenced from Infosys Gate-1 and ended at Wipro Gate-1 in Phase II of the IT park.

Ms. Shukla raised a number of questions regarding the IT major’s security measures, while remarking that the onus lay on employers and employees as well.

Following the murder, Infosys has gone in for a thorough review of its emergency response mechanisms, while imparting self-defence training courses to its employees across campuses in the country.
