INLD objects to officers' appointment

May 09, 2010 01:30 am | Updated 01:30 am IST - CHANDIGARH

In view of the ongoing poll process for the municipal bodies in Haryana, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has described the appointment of 11 Haryana Civil Service (HCS) officers as administrators of Municipal Councils in addition to their present assignments as a gross violation of the model code of conduct.

In a statement here on Saturday, INLD spokesman K.C. Bangar said the long-term implications of such appointments could not be ignored.

Expressing ‘grave concern' over the continued efforts of the Haryana government to influence the polls, he said that the poll process had already reached an advanced stage and there was no urgency to saddle the HCS officers with additional responsibility. He also alleged that the INLD was feeling betrayed by the lack of vigil being shown by the State Election Commission which had not acted on its earlier complaints of “blatant attempts'' to influence the poll outcome.
