Hockey players participating in the World Cup here will have armed policemen accompanying them in their team buses which will take the sportsmen to the stadium from the hotel.
The buses in which the players will travel from their hotels to the stadium will also have a police escort.
The World Cup Hockey will be held between February 28 and March 13 here and will witness hockey majors India, Pakistan, Germany, Britain and Australia fight for the championship along with seven other countries.

“This is a major event. We have finalised a security plan for the event. Three to five armed policemen will be in buses ferrying players to the stadium. There will also be an escort for them,” a senior police official said.
Asked whether the Pune blast has put the police on tenterhooks, the official said one need not worry about security preparedness. “Being the national capital, we are always on alert and a well-oiled security apparatus is here.”
To check the preparedness of various agencies in the event of any terror strike, security agencies conducted a mock drill at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.

The city police are taking the World Cup as a “dress rehearsal” ahead of the Commonwealth Games in putting in place a security apparatus and planning traffic for the mega event.
Over 100 CCTVs will be installed in and around Dhyan Chand stadium during the World Cup to keep a track on movement of spectators, the official said.
