Gulf-bound passenger detained

In this December 7 photo, people gather at the site of an explosion that rocked the Dashashwamedh ghat on the bank of the river Ganga in Varanasi. A man was detained at the Mumbai airport on Saturday after a tip-off that he was allegedly involved in the blast.

The Mumbai police on Saturday detained one person at Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport after an anonymous caller alerted them about his alleged involvement in Varanasi blast. It could not be ascertained if the arrested person was indeed involved in the blast as questioning was on till late in the night.

He was detained before he was to take a Gulf-bound flight. Central Industrial Security Force Deputy Inspector-General of Police J.S. Negi confirmed the report. “We intercepted one Suhaib Nadim Siddqui, around 32 years of age, at the counter of Gulf Airlines at 2.30 pm. He was to board a Gulf-bound flight. There was a look-out notice issued by the police on his name. We interrogated him briefly and handed him over to the police,” he said.

Additional Commissioner of Police (West region) Amitabh Gupta said, “We are investigating the matter.”
