The special SIT court hearing the Gulberg society massacre case on Thursday pointed to a likely conflict of interest between the victims and the prosecution.
S.M. Vora, lawyer representing the victims and witnesses, has sought an audience with the court to present his final arguments in the case, alongside those of the prosecution.
While agreeing to grant an audience, judge P.B. Desai said: “I anticipate a conflict of interest. As the [victims’ lawyer] wants to make a separate submission, it could amount to the victims not being happy with the prosecution and not having faith in the investigation. The conflict of interest is where the prosecution does not refer to some aspects of the case which you feel should have been mentioned. I cannot let you examine witnesses that have been put in the box by the prosecution. Yes, anyone supporting the prosecution can tender any application, but the question is to what extent your locus can be extended.”
