The Gujarat government is planning to set up Quick Response Teams (QRTs) comprising trained commandos armed with latest weapons and equipment to combat terrorism.

The QRTs would be stationed near sensitive areas and will be available on call.

“We are planning to set up nearly 111 QRTs which will be deployed at all districts of the state and will be working in three shifts,” Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order, Sudhir Sinha said.

“Each team will consist of six highly trained commandos who will be equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and modern equipments,” he said.

Mr. Sinha said that these teams would be directly working under the supervision of the respective district superintendents of police (DSP) at district-level and under the commissioner of police in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara.

“Each QRT unit will be headed by the police inspector of the special operations group (SOG) already existing in districts. They will also have support of state Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS),” Mr. Sinha said.
