The government on Tuesday accused the Opposition of stalling Parliament and not allowing discussions on the Sushma Swaraj-Lalit Modi controversy.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned thrice, after Opposition members created a ruckus and demanded the resignation of Ms. Swaraj.

Leader of the House Arun Jailtely said the government is ready for a discussion and Ms. Swaraj would also make a statement on the issue. But the Opposition did not relent.

"We think they are not ready to speak, we can have discussions post 2 p.m. I even proposed Sushma Swaraj will participate or even give a statement first. The Opposition wants to disrupt the House. We are ready for discussion in any form at any time," he said.

He said the Lok Sabha was adjourned after obituary references, and the Rajay Sabha was to come back to business, as the Opposition had given a notice under Rule 267. Mr. Jaitley said State issues cannot be discussed in Parliament, but the government is ready to discuss the issue of Ms. Swaraj.
