Govt indifferent to “mayhem” in aviation industry: BJP

Describing the on-going agitation by a section of Jet Airways pilots and the resultant problems as “an obvious mayhem,” the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said the government’s indifferent attitude is responsible for the current dismal situation in the aviation industry.

“There is an obvious mayhem in the aviation industry in India and the government is practically indifferent to the prevailing situation...The government has spelled out the doomsday for the aviation sector,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

“The government, which has been tom-tomming the exponential growth in the domestic and international sectors, had prompted the airlines to put in place major expansion and business plans which have hit a roadblock now,” he added.

He also said that it would not be long before we find some of the major airlines shutting shops.

The former Civil Aviation minister also claimed that while the State-run Air India is “perennially sick,” private airline Kingfisher also has run into a financial crisis.

“Other low-cost carriers like Spicejet and Indigo have been charging the private airport operators with burdening the airlines of excessive and irrational landing charges,” he said and expressed concern over the growing unemployment rates in the sector.
