File charge sheet against Digvijay, says court

April 23, 2011 12:49 am | Updated 02:13 am IST - Bhopal:

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the State police to charge sheet AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and 11 others for allegedly favouring a particular real estate project in Indore.

Mr. Singh, when he was the Chief Minister, allegedly flouted rules and was instrumental in allowing the construction of the Treasure Island mall in Indore on a much larger plot of land than it was originally allotted.

Interestingly, last week Mr. Singh criticised the BJP government for getting land allocated illegally to a religious trust.

A Bench of Justices Shrivastava and S.K. Seth issued the directions while hearing a petition filed by one Mahesh Garg, who complained to the court that the EOW was deliberately delaying the filing of a charge sheet in the case.

Those to be charge-sheeted include, apart from Mr. Singh, several bureaucrats and deputy leader of the Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha Chaudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi.

Reacting to the development, State Bharatiya Janata Party president Prabhat Jha said Mr. Digvijay Singh should now stop making statements against anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

“Mr. Digvijay Singh has lost the moral authority to level accusations at Anna Hazare,”Mr. Jha said.
