Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama said here on Saturday that it was Babasaheb Ambedkar, who spread awareness about Buddhism in India in the 20th century. He made this point during a spiritual discourse here organised by the Bihar Foundation.
“Dr. Ambedkar, the creator of Indian Constitution, spread awareness about the religion in 1956. Today, we need to understand the real meaning of Buddha, Buddhism,” he said.
“Buddha is not the name of a person. It is a name for knowledge, nirvana. It means that you get rid of the wrong ‘sanskar' and inculcate the right ‘sanskars' with the help of education,” he said. He said that in the 21st century, there was great technological advancement but it cannot create peace, happiness and friendship.

“All the religions preach the same values of compassion, friendship towards fellow living beings. It is a matter of pride that India is the only country in the world where all the religions coexist in mutual brotherhood,” he said.
