DMK's top panel to meet on Wednesday

April 26, 2011 12:15 am | Updated September 27, 2016 02:52 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's high-level committee will meet on Wednesday to discuss the further course of action in the wake of inclusion of party MP Kanimozhi's name in the supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI in the 2G spectrum allocation case.

This was announced by party general secretary K. Anbazhagan in a statement here on Monday.

The statement traced the sequence of events in the 2G scam from the implication of the Kalaignar TV in a case in which the former Union Minister for Communications, A. Raja, was charged. It stated how the TV channel had repaid a loan of Rs. 200 crore along with interest; it had provided relevant documents to the Income Tax Department and established that the transaction was carried out in a transparent manner.

The statement referred to the interrogation of the stakeholders in the TV channel, Ms. Kanimozhi, Sharad Kumar and Dayalu Ammal, and the naming of Ms. Kanimozhi and Mr. Kumar in the charge sheet, all of which was “blown out of proportion.”

Senior party leaders say the meeting may chalk out ways and means to face a legal battle. As the issue has a bearing on the standing of the party, the views of the committee members will be sought in tackling it.
