A Delhi court on Friday decided to conduct its own probe into allegations of two undertrials that they had been given weapons by some Tihar Jail officials to kill two Commonwealth Games organising committee officials lodged in the high security prison on corruption charges.

“The court itself will now enquire into it,” Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Venod Yadav said as the police failed to complete the probe in stipulated time frame.

The judge refused to give more time to the police and said it was taking over the probe due to seriousness of the matter.

“It is a fact that a knife has been recovered from the jail and the matter needs to be taken with seriousness,” the CMM said after perusing the interim report on the probe conducted by the Hari Nagar police station into the sensational claim made by the two undertrial prisoners on December 21.
