The past conduct of Vikas Yadav, who is undergoing life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara, continued to haunt him as the Delhi High Court on Friday rejected his interim bail plea and allowed him to attend his sister’s marriage under judicial custody.
“The fact that the appellant(Vikas) committed the offence of murder of Nitish Katara and other offences when he was on bail in the murder case of Jessica Lal, cannot be brushed aside lightly,” A bench comprising Justices Anil Kumar and Vipin Sanghi said while rejecting his plea for a month’s bail to attend the marriage ceremonies.
The Court rejected the plea of Vikas that it should take a lenient approach towards him as he was convicted for lesser offence of destruction of evidence in Jessica Lal murder and said “this will not mitigate the severity of the act of the applicant of committing the murder of Nitish Katara when he had been released on bail in that case.

“The confidence reposed by the Court in releasing him on bail in another case was not sustained and honoured by him and this fact cannot be taken lightly,” the bench said.
On May 28 last year, Vikas and his cousin Vishal were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara, a son of an IAS officer, in 2002 as they opposed Katara’s intimacy with his sister.
