Chinese envoy meets MEA officials over visa row

Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yang on Friday met External Affairs Ministry officials against the backdrop of a row over China’s denial of permission to the Northern Army Commander to visit that country.

Mr. Zhang met Joint Secretary (China) Gautam Bambawale and is understood to have discussed the issue, sources said.

China has denied permission to Lt. Gen. B.S. Jaswal, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Udhampur-based Northern Command, the sources said.
