Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday assured appropriate action in connection with the deportation Nitu Singh, students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) at Pune.
This assurance was given to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP Brinda Karat who met Mr. Chidambaram here. The Minister told Ms. Karat that he had asked for the files from Maharashtra and would take appropriate action after looking at the papers. The Central government had no information on the matter and neither did it have any files or records pertaining to the case, Ms. Karat said quoting the Minister.
Ms. Karat briefed the Minister about the details of the case. She had earlier written to him seeking his intervention.

Nitu Singh, a final year ICCR scholarship student at FTII, was picked up from her hostel in Pune on December 5 and sent back to Nepal for “security reasons.”
