Cauvery: Meet likely in a couple of days

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her Karnataka counterpart Jagadish Shettar are expected to meet here on either Wednesday or Thursday in a bid to work out a solution to the Cauvery dispute.

On Monday, the Supreme Court suggested a meeting between the Chief Ministers on the Cauvery issue. The court will hear the matter again on Friday

The Hindu that soon after the court’s suggestion, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Devendranath Sarangi confirmed to the authorities here that Ms. Jayalalithaa was ready for discussions and, if need be, would arrive in Bangalore on Wednesday.

The Cauvery River Authority met on September 19 and directed Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of water a day for 25 days. Thereafter, the Cauvery Monitoring Committee has been meeting every fortnight and issuing directions. Since September 12 (when the Supreme Court ordered the CRA to meet), Karnataka was to have released 39.92 tmcft, whereas it has released 41.87 tmcft.
