The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested Shekhar Deorukhkar, a close aide of the former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) chairman Suresh Kalmadi in connection with the alleged multicrore rupee overlays scam linked to the Delhi CWG 2010.
“He was arrested on Friday afternoon from Pune and would be taken to a CBI special court for transit remand and we will bring him to Delhi by Saturday,” CBI spokesperson and Deputy Inspector- General Vinita Thakur said here.

The arrest came after the CBI registered a fresh case, under various legal provisions, in connection with award of contracts for overlays at different venues at exorbitant rates, the CBI spokesperson said.
The works included supply of tents, marquees, pre-fabricated units, portable toilets, containers, security fence, furniture, public display LED boards, floor finishes, material handling equipment, gensets, cabling, UPS, air-conditioners, lighting, civil construction, athletic exercise equipment and grandstands.
Mr. Deorukhkar was picked up from his residence in the Kothrud area by the CBI team that reached Pune from Delhi and was booked under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. He has been personal assistant to Mr. Kalmadi for the past 15 years.

Fifth to be arrested
The agency had earlier arrested three senior officials T.S. Darbari, Sanjay Mohindroo and M. Jayachandran. All the three were subsequently granted bail. Beenu Nanu, head of two event management companies, was the fourth person to be arrested by the agency.
The CBI had registered three FIRs on allegations of corruption in the projects and events of the CWG. Two of these cases were in connection with alleged irregularities in the Queen's Baton Relay.
