The Delhi High Court on Thursday granted bail to the former Bharatiya Janata Party president Bangaru Laxman in a corruption case following a sting operation by news website Tehelka.com in 2001.
Justice A.K. Pathak granted Mr. Laxman bail subject to his furnishing of a bail bond of Rs.50,000 with one surety of a like amount.
Mr. Laxman was taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation on April 27 after a special court convicted and awarded him a four-year imprisonment. He had sought bail, citing medical grounds and his advanced age.

Earlier, the court had refused him bail, saying it could not pass an order on his plea without going through the case records.
He had sought suspension of his sentence and grant of bail while challenging his conviction by the lower court in an appeal.
The BJP leader was caught on camera allegedly accepting Rs.1 lakh as bribe from journalists posing as defence dealers.
