Anti-Sikh riots: Digvijaya says probe RSS role

February 02, 2015 02:08 am | Updated November 16, 2021 09:48 pm IST - Bengaluru:

AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Sunday demanded a probe into the alleged role of RSS activists in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. “We are all very sad and condemn the riots. The issue had been investigated. Whoever had to be punished had been punished. [But] the role of the RSS in the riots has to be investigated,” he said at a press conference here.

As for former Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan’s allegations against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Singh said: “Mr. Gandhi and AICC president Sonia Gandhi had been extremely sensitive to environment and tribal rights.”

Mr. Singh said the Congress objected to the implementation of the T.S.R. Subramaniam Committee’s report on environment and forests. “The report has recommended granting 90 per cent of the forest area for mining and development projects,” he said.
