Another quake jolts north-east

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale shook parts of the north-east region late on Sunday night.

The quake, epicentred in Indo-Myanmar border region, was felt in many parts of the region, including Shillong and Guwahati, Central Seismological Observatory sources said here.

There was no report of any damage.

The Seismological Observatory in Shillong has recorded 28 quakes in the region this year till September. In 2008, the total number of recorded quakes was 24.

On September 21, an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter Scale was felt in the region. It was the biggest quake in the region in the last 20 years.

The quake had left over half a dozen dead in neighbouring Bhutan where it was epicentered.
