With the death of Anas AlFatih Suleiman, 21, of Sudan on Wednesday, the death toll in the German Bakery blast here has gone up to 16.
He is the fourth foreign national and the second Sudanese to have died in the blast.
Anas was a first-year B.Sc. student of Poona College and an avid football player. On the day of the blast, Anas was in the German Bakery, along with compatriot Amjed Algazoli, who died of injuries on Saturday.

Anas had suffered 78 per cent chest injuries and was kept on life-support system at the Jehangir Hospital.
He had been studying in Pune for the past one-and-a-half years. Though he hailed from Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, he did schooling up to Std. 12 in Doha (Qatar), where his father held a government job. He scored 73 per cent in his Std. 12 examinations. And then he came to Pune for higher education and lived in the Kondhwa area.
To improve his English, Anas had undertaken an English-speaking course at the Symbiosis College, said Attal Manal, a friend. Manal said he was very popular among his friends, as he was very intelligent and helpful. Anas’ parents, brother and one of his sisters were with him when he died. His other sister was to come to Pune on Thursday to see him, said one of his friends, Ibrahim Hashim. The body will now be taken to Sudan for the last rites.

The other foreigners who died in the blast were Nadia Macerini, 37, an Italian on a visit to the Osho International Meditation Resort; Saied Abdulkhani, 26, a student of literature at the Symbiosis College; and Amjed Algazoli, 25.
Thirteen persons are still under treatment at various hospitals. Seven of them are in Intensive Care Units, while six are in general wards, Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said. Of the seven in the ICU, six are said to be out of danger. Aditi Jindal, admitted to Inlaks Budhrani Hospital, is in a critical condition.
