Taking care of their basic needs: BSF

The Border Security Force (BSF) has said they were taking care of the daily necessities of 31 Rohingya who have been stranded along the Bangladesh-Tripura border for the past three days.

The Rohingya are holed up behind the barbed wire fencing at Rayermura in west Tripura.

It is not clear how they reached here. The official said six men, nine women and 16 children were detained by the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday.

A senior BSF official said that Commandant rank officers of the BSF and their counterparts in the BGB have met twice, but the impasse continues.

“We have also asked the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to intervene if the situation isn’t solved by the two forces,” said the official.

While the BGB asserted that the Rohingyas came from India, the BSF denied the claim.

The barbed wire fencing has been erected 300 feet into the Indian side from the international border, as per norms.
