2G accused taking advantage: Swamy

The large crowds that pack the 2G spectrum case special court enable some of the accused persons who are currently in judicial custody to also take liberties with the law by freely moving about in the courtroom, being able to speak freely with family members and others, and even talk on mobile phones, besides taking unauthorised food and drinks, out of sight of Special Judge O. P. Saini.

Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy, who is also a complainant in the 2G spectrum case, told The Hindu that such acts like “passing food, drinks and gadgets; chit-chatting which has nothing to do with the law, mother talking to daughter, husband talking to wife are not allowed in courtrooms anywhere in the world.”

“Consultations are permitted in the court on matters concerning the case. The media should not be barred from entry, because in a democracy it is they who pass on news of such an important case to citizens. Relatives and members of the public should be seated in a visitors' gallery like in the Supreme Court, if such arrangements can be made in this courtroom,” Dr. Swamy said.
