Pagoda in China's tourist destination catches fire

A 41-metre tall bronze-coated concrete Pagoda in a tourist destination of southern China’s Guilin City caught fire on Wednesday morning.

The fire, which lasted more than two hours, was put off by firefighters, the fire department said.

The “Sun Pagoda”, one of the double Pagodas dubbed as “Sun and Moon”, which have been among the tourist landmarks of Guilin, caught fire.

It was made of 350 tonnes of bronze, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The double Pagodas in the Fir Lake which were rebuilt in 2001, date back to the Tang Dynasty (618—907 AD).
