Morsy to stand trial for insulting judiciary

Egypt’s state news agency is reporting that the country’s ousted President Mohamed Morsy and 24 other politicians, media personalities, activists and lawyers will be tried on charges of insulting the judiciary.

The new referral of Mohamed Morsy to trial on Sunday is the fourth court case against the president. Only one trial, where he is charged with inciting murder against his opponents, has opened. He is also on trial for organizing prison breaks during the 2011 uprising and on charges of conspiring with foreign militant groups to destabilise Egypt.

The new trial dates back to Mr. Morsy’s time in office, when he named a judge in a public speech and accused him of overseeing fraud in previous elections.
