Nelson Mandela remains in a critical but stable condition and continues to show improvement, the South African presidency said on Tuesday.

Mr. Mandela has been hospitalised at the Mediclinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria since June 8 for a recurring lung infection. He turned 95 on July 18.

President Jacob Zuma urged the public to continue praying for Mr. Mandela. He also called on the business community to support the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital project.

“Madiba loves children and wants the best for them,” Mr. Zuma said, referring to Mr. Mandela by his clan name.

“He wants us to ensure that they have a better future. The hospital will be one of the most inspiring legacies of this remarkable statesman,” he added.
