UK to hold direct talks with Syria's rebels

British Prime Minister David Cameron said President Barack Obama must do more to end Syria’s civil war, urging him to join the UK in opening direct talks with rebel fighters.

Touring Zaatari refugee camp in northern Jordan, home to more than 33,000 people who have fled Syria, Mr. Cameron said on Wednesday that the UK planned to change its policy and deal directly with opposition military leaders. Previously, Britain has had contacts only with exile groups and political opposition figures inside Syria.

Mr. Cameron said “There is an opportunity for Britain, for America, for Saudi Arabia, Jordan and like-minded allies to come together and try to help shape the opposition.”

Mr. Cameron said that in talks with Mr. Obama he would stress “we must do more to try and solve this crisis.”
