Iraqi officials say two bomb attacks have killed six people in two cities.

In the first incident on Friday, a police officer said attackers detonated a bomb as an army jeep was driving through the western Baghdad neighbourhood of Abu Ghraib, killing three soldiers.

Later, another police officer said a bomb exploded near a vegetable stand, killing three civilians and wounding 15 in the Shiite-dominated city of Hillah, 95 kilometers (60 miles) south of Baghdad.

There were no claims of responsibility.

The attacks were typical of al-Qaida’s Iraqi branch. Its Sunni militants often attack Shiites, seeing them as heretics, and also aiming to undermine the country’s Shiite-led government.
