Sri Lankan court extends remand of Indian fishermen

A court in Sri Lanka on Monday extended till October 28 the judicial remand of 23 Indian fishermen from Kottaipattinam and Rameswaram arrested for allegedly crossing into the island waters.

Oorkavalthurai Judicial Magistrate Mahindhira Raja passed the order extending their remand, President of Nesakarangal Charitable Trust and Pamban Fishermen Organisation S. Armstrong Fernand told reporters in Rameswaram quoting information received from Sri Lanka.

Nineteen fishermen of Kottaipattinam in Pudukottai district were arrested with their four boats on September 19, while others with their one boat on October 3 by Sri Lankan Naval Personnel for allegedly entering their territorial waters and lodged in Jaffna prison.
