Sri Lanka to probe mass grave unearthed in central region

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa will appoint a Presidential Commission to investigate a mass grave where more than 150 skeletons were found last year, according to a Government spokesman.

The spokesman, Lakshman Hulugalle, said on Monday that Mr. Rajapaksa had decided to appoint the commission to probe the mass grave found at a hospital in the central region of the country.

Workers found the human remains during construction work last December. Last month, a judge declared it a crime scene and said the recovered skulls and bones date back 25 years, strengthening suspicions that they belonged to suspected Marxist rebels killed at that time.
