Six more killed in Bangladesh violence

Political violence during opposition protests for postponing the polls continued unabated, claiming five more lives

As the post-election scenario continued to be complicated owing to uninterrupted violence, at least six more people were killed and scores injured across Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The latest deaths and injuries occurred when the pro-blockade activists attacked vehicles, including that of the police, with bombs, stones and petrol during the 131-hour non-stop rail, road and waterways blockade being enforced by the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami .

Meanwhile, the U.S. on Tuesday urged both parties to have “constructive dialogue” to find a way out for holding free, fair and credible elections. “We believe that with goodwill, the two parties can still find a way to provide a free, fair and credible election that the Bangladeshi people want and deserve,” said a statement from the U.S. embassy in Dhaka.
