Pakistan on Tuesday summoned the Afghan Charge d’Affaires to the Foreign Office to register protest on “repetition of an unprovoked firing incident that took place on Monday” from Afghan posts on the Pakistani Gursal post.
According to the Foreign Office, five soldiers of the Frontier Constabulary were injured in the firing. Pakistani security forces, as per the statement, “exercised maximum restraint” and communicated first to the Afghan side about repetition of the serious violation through military channels.
The Afghan diplomat was asked advise relevant Afghan authorities to avoid such unprovoked firing “which undermines the existing coordination mechanisms” between the security forces of the two countries. He was also told that “in case of any further escalation as a result of this situation, the responsibility would be on the Afghan government”.

The Gursal post has been a bone of contention between the two countries for a couple of months now since Pakistan began routine renovation of the post along the border.
