Official says 6 killed in Afghan market blast

Published - November 24, 2014 08:17 pm IST - KABUL, Afghanistan

An official in northern Afghanistan says a bomb planted on a motorcycle exploded in a market, killing six people.

Police spokesman Sarwar Hussaini said on Monday that the blast struck a crowded market in Dashti Archi district. He said five people were wounded in the attack.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. Insurgents have stepped up attacks against Afghan security forces in a bid to undermine the Western-backed Kabul government of President Ashraf Ghani.

The blast comes a day after a suicide bomber attacked a volleyball tournament in Paktika province, killing at least 50 people.
