The issue of Indian fishermen allegedly poaching in Sri Lankan waters has resurfaced again, with the Sri Lankan Navy apprehending eight fishermen off Mannar on Saturday. Based on the Mannar district judge's order on Sunday they were remanded to custody, until June 27.

The eight fishermen were arrested on charges of engaging in illegal fishing activity, the second instance since the 45-day fishing ban in India ended on June 1.

On June 5, a total of 49 fishermen from Rameswaram were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy and later remanded to custody.
