November 24, 2013 04:19 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:02 pm IST - ISLAMABAD:

Eleven schoolteachers in Khyber Agency were kidnapped on Saturday morning when they were preparing to set out for a polio vaccination drive, according to a report in Dawn .

The teachers were taken away in the Sipah area of Bara, where the drive had begun on November 20.

However, a World Health Organisation source said: “We are working closely with the Pakistani authorities to understand the situation. The neutrality and safety of health workers is paramount for us, and we are hoping to get a clearer picture soon. At this point, I understand that the kidnapped are not polio workers.” Unofficial sources said the incident happened on Thursday at Hira public school. —
