Police officer, suspect and others injured in Munich subway shooting

The area has been secured and that there is no danger to the wider public, Munich police spokesman says

A German policewoman was critically wounded in the head, and two others — a German and a Romanian — were injured in a shooting at the S-Bahn (local railway) station in Unterfoehring here on Tuesday morning. 

The suspect is now in custody and rail services have been suspended.

There were no "political or religious motives" behind the attack, the police confirmed, in the backdrop of an increasing number of terrorist attacks in Europe over the last couple of years.

Last year, in Munich, a shooting occurred in Moosach district killing nine and injuring 36 people. 

The incident took place when the police intervened in a scuffle between a 37-year-old Munich resident and others. During the argument, the suspect grabbed a gun from a police officer and shot at the 26-year-old policewoman. The injured are being treated in hospital, the police said. 

Ulrike Goldfuss (55), a witness to the attack, said: "When the train pulled into the station, I saw policemen holding a man on the platform. I was standing at the door of the exit. I suddenly heard 3 or 4 shots. We all lay down immediately. When the doors opened I saw a policewoman with blood on her face. We all ran up the stairs. We are now so used to hearing about terror attacks that our instinct was to lie down." 

The S-Bahn line passing through Unterfoehring is one of the main routes to the Munich airport.
