German President Christian Wulff attended a religious service Sunday in Berlin to remember the nearly 3,000 victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

Also attending the service were US Ambassador Philip D Murphy, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich.

Attendees observed a minute of silence for the victims of the attack, carried out by members of the al-Qaeda terrorist organization against the sites in New York City and just outside the U.S. capital, Washington.
