At least 421 people were killed in Egypt on Wednesday in violence linked to the police’s break-up of two major protest camps in Cairo set up by supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsy, the Health Ministry said.

Spokesman Mohammed Fatallah added that a total of 294 people were killed in Rabaa al-Adawiya in north-eastern Cairo and al-Nahda Square south of the capital during the crackdown on the campers.

The rest of the deaths occurred in other areas of the country.
