Box jellyfish sting kills German tourist in Thailand

The German woman tourist was taking an evening swim on Tuesday on Samui island's Lamai beach, a popular strip in Thailand packed with hotels, when she was stung by the box jellyfish, one of the world's most toxic jellyfishes.

A 20-year-old German tourist has died at a popular Thai beach island after being stung by one of the world’s most toxic jellyfishes.

The woman’s death on the island of Samui was the third reported fatality in Thailand in 14 months from the highly venomous box jellyfish, the sting of which can kill an adult within minutes.

Police Lt. Col Thewet Pruemsut said the woman was taking an evening swim on Tuesday on Lamai beach, a popular strip packed with hotels, when she was stung by the jellyfish.
