On December 21, the BNP chief, in her first public address in more than a year, abruptly raised a new controversy, expressing doubts about the the Liberation War casualty figures.

Ms. Zia’s comments came close on the heels of Pakistan’s denial in November of committing any war crimes or atrocities in the nine-month bloody war.
