Six Bangladeshi activists threatened

August 11, 2015 08:56 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 01:02 am IST - DHAKA:

Six Bangladeshi activists have been allegedly threatened by Islamist militants on social networking site Facebook, three days after suspected extremists hacked to death secular blogger Niladri Chatterjee Niloy.

The activists are members of ‘Ganajagaran Mancha’, a movement demanding maximum penalty for those who committed war crimes during the 1971 Bangladesh freedom struggle and a ban on religion-based politics. The four slain bloggers were also a part of this organisation.

The Facebook account ‘Ansar BD’, issued the treat on Monday with pictures of six men, bdnews24 reported.

They are poets Henry Swapan, Syed Mehedi Hasan, Syed Mehedi Hasan, sculptor Charu Tuhin, organiser Nazrul Biswas and Chhatra Union member Pritom Chowdhury.

Purported militant group Ansar Al Islam, claiming to be Al Qaeda’s ‘Bangladesh branch’, claimed credit for Niloy’s murder on August 7.

Prior to Niloy’s murder, three other bloggers — Avijit Roy, Oyasiqur Rahman Babu and Ananta Bijoy Das — were also similarly killed.
