Obama approval rating slips to 47 per cent

December 08, 2009 02:37 pm | Updated 02:40 pm IST - Washington

The job approval rating of U.S. President, Barack Obama, has slipped further to 47 per cent, the latest Gallup Poll said today, adding that this is a new low for the Administration till date.

Obama’s approval rating has been below 50 per cent for much of the time since mid-November, but briefly rose to 52 per cent last week after he announced his new Afghanistan policy, Gallup said.

Any slight bump in support Obama received coincided with his new Afghan policy that proved to be very short-lived, as his approval rating returned to below the majority level by the weekend, and slipped further to 47 per cent in December 4-6 polling.

“Thus far in December, Obama has averaged 50 per cent job approval. That is similar to the December averages for Ronald Reagan (49 per cent) and Bill Clinton (53 per cent), who also took office when the economy was struggling,” it said.
